  • The first 15 km to Thandi (Water Point 1 at 15 km) stays the same as in 2015, with sufficient open roads to limit bottle necks;
  • From Thandi WP, up the switch backs, along the railway line, via Kromco and then into Paul Cluver, up to Witklippieskloof, the highest point of the total route at 450m (two climbs- Kili Hill 1 & 2);
  • From Witklippies down to the Amphitheater (Water Point 2 at 30km), in the Bike Park to cross Raka, Swing, Kransvoel and the Ark;
  • Then test your skills on the Cobra switchbacks, if you walked / battled, then take the non-technical alternatives at Mamba and Pofadder;
  • From the Jakkelsriver Dam the same 2013 route back to Houwhoek Inn, with another non technical alternative near the Finish.

Stage 2 is a winner and stays the same as last year

ROUTE INFORMATION

The Houw Hoek Tour gives you the opportunity to cycle some of the W2W RACE routes. The Tour also aims to let you explore and experience what a multi-stage event is all about and offers a relax and supportive atmosphere as no timing is done.

Stage 1 starts at 08h00 on Saturday 5 May 2018 and finishes at the Houw Hoek Inn. This stage includes the Thandi, Paul Cluver, Korteshoven and Houw Hoek single tracks. Stunning new single tracks have been added at Thandi and Paul Cluver; Witklippieskloof, Raka, Swing, Kransvoel, Ark, Cobra, Mamba, Boomslang and Pofadder. If you don’t have the technical skills and stomach for the Mamba, Pofadder and Houw Hoek switchbacks near the Finish, settle for the non technical alternative routes.

Stage 2 starts same time on Sunday 6 May 2018 from the Houw Hoek Inn. The route takes you down the historic Katpass, along the Botriver, on single tracks that link the four historic cottages on Bot river farm, along the Karwyderskraal gravel road. At the end of this road you get a beautiful view of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, down the Valley on single tracks, up Hamilton Russel, onto Rotary View Drive to get another stunning view of Walker Bay) and the opportunity to stop at the Hamilton Russel Celebration table to have a good glass of wine to celebrate the achievement with your friends. Then it’s mostly down to the finish at Hermanuspietersfontein Winery, along the Onrus River single tracks.
